About

I was born at St. David’s Hospital in Austin, Texas. My mother was born in Austin, too. Her mother came to Austin from Mason, Texas, when she was 8 or 9. That side of the family had come to Texas in the 1800s, before the Civil War. So I’m basically sixth generation Texan and second generation Austinite!

What I’m going to do with this blog is talk about what I love about Austin, what I worry about – over-development and environmental degradation for one – all giving the perspective of someone who’s been here awhile. Far from being provincial in my outlook, I have lived outside Texas – most recently living in Washington, D.C. for almost 3 years. I’ve studied or worked in Mexico, Ecuador, England, Spain, Arizona, and New York.

  1. Laura, I remember that photo, I have one of Ruth
in the same outfit, but in a different pose, her holding her foot way above her head, like a standing split. The pictures of Aarons bring back alot of memories of the Martin family.
